Maryland teen claiming ties to ISIS arrested for online threats
Salisbury, Maryland – A 16 year old Wicomico High School student claiming ties to ISIS has been arrested for tweeting pro-ISIS threats to local news WBOC. Is it a prank?
He sent a tweet to WBOC in DelMarva that said,
“@wboc we are here, and will cut off every christian head in salisbury and will start at wicomico high, and wont stop.”
The news station immediately contacted the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Wicomico Board of Education.
The teen was arrested on 4 charges: making threats of mass violence, electronic mail harassment, making threats to harm a school environment, and disturbing school operations. He was turned over to Maryland’s Department of Juvenile services, who will determine whether or not he will face the charges as an adult.
The penalty for making such threats can be up to 10 years in prison if they decide to charge him as an adult. The teen’s name has not been released, and will not be unless he is charged as an adult.
Telling people on line that ISIS is in their city and threatening to cut off people’s heads is sincerely not a smart “prank” if that’s what this is. Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
